Air Legend Melun Villaroche Airshow France - 6-7 September 2025
Aviation history at former Dassault test airfield: Homage to Constantin Rozanoff
In the world of European aviation events, the Air Legend Melun Villaroche airshow remains a highlight in our airshow calender. This event transforms a vintage test airfield from Dassault into a living flying museum, offering a deep dive into aviation history with propellers and early jets that few other venues can match.
This weekend, Air Legend honored the legacy of French aviation pioneer and pre-war test pilot, Constantin Rozanoff. As pre-war test pilot for Morane-Saulnier and later chief pilot for Dassault, Rozanoff played a crucial role in the development of the first jets after the War. This tribute highlights his significant contributions to the aviation industry and celebrates the rich history of French aviation.
Melun-Villaroche is considered a perfect location for spectators and photographers alike. Unlike many European airfields, the display line is oriented East so that you have the sunlight from behind for the duration of the afternoon, illuminating the aircraft brilliantly against the blue sky. Lots of top-side passes guaranteed at this airshow! Adding the nostalgic atmosphere, groups of re-enactors in period-correct uniforms roam the flightline, making you feel as if you’ve stepped back into the 1940s.
Air Legend 2025 Highlights
The 2025 edition had a vintage heavy-metal lineup:
- The Flying Bulls: Featuring the silver-polished B-25 Mitchell and P-51 Mustang.
- The Jet Age: The whistling roar of the Me-262 - a rare recreation of the world’s first operational jet fighter flying alongside with the Polish build Mig-17 and the F-86 Sabre.
- Precision Formations: The Patrouille Tranchant showcased their formation skills in the Fouga Magister as did Team Fly & Fun in their Albatros jets
- Tactical Might: The A400 tactical demo by the French Air Force, l'Armée de l'Air et de l'Espace, pushed the limits of the massive airlifter's agility.
- The Classics: A 1st time French airshow appearance by the AVRO Anson Mk1 provided a nostalgic look at pre-war multi-engine design and a graceful performance by Classic Formation from Switzerland.
- Air Legend's Surprise aircraft: the MS.406 in the (1938) colours as flown by the famous post-war Melun-based test pilot Constantin Rozanoff
Although this time no Rafale Solo Display (Athens Flying Week) and Patrouille de France (Rivolto 65 anniversairy of the Frecce Tricolori), their absence allowed the "Warbird" spirit to take center stage, giving more airtime to the historic piston engines and early jets that defined the 20th century.
The true spirit of Air Legend
Attending the Air Legend airshow at Melun-Villaroche is a top choice for anyone who loves high-octane engines, aviation history, and a good dose of airshow action. The vintage airfield, spectacular flying with lots of top-side passes, the morning flightline access and the great line-up of rare warbirds and jets accompanied by re-enactors makes it a fabuleous weekend!
The next edition of the Air Legend is September 5-6, 2026
