Meeting Aérien de Chartres - 21 September 2025
Meeting Aérien de Chartres: A Spectacular Sky Symphony
Experience the magic where history meets the horizon. The second edition of Meeting Aérien de Chartres, co-organized by the Aéro-Club de France and the Aéro-Club de Chartres Métropole was held at September 21, 2025, a day of adrenaline, heritage, and breathtaking aerial choreography above the cathedral at the Chartres Métropole airfield.
The 2025 edition has been designed to be more than just an airshow; it is a "festive atmosphere for the whole family". The ground is alive with energy, but the true spirit of the event lies in its "love affair between Chartres and the sky" - a tribute to France's glorious history in aviation and a look towards the future.
The Majestic Cathedral Backdrop
The event’s most iconic feature is the silhouette of the Cathedral of Chartres, a UNESCO World Heritage site, standing tall in the background. As aircraft like the Patrouille de France, the A400M, and PC-21 Mustang X-Ray soar above, they do so against the timeless horizon where the cathedral acts as a "marker between sky and earth". This unique visual link between medieval architectural mastery and modern aeronautic engineering creates a truly unique and unforgettable sight.
A Major Gathering
Following the massive success of their 2023 debut, which drew approximately 70,000 people, the 2025 event has been carefully organised to manage a vast audience. This airshow hosted approximately over 50 aircraft and helicopters including both historic legends and modern military aircraft.
The airshow presented a diverse range of flying displays:
- Modern Military Stars: The headline act was the Patrouille de France with their eight Alpha Jets, French Air Force Mustang X-Ray Team with their PC-21's, alongside the first-ever appearance in Chartres of the Airbus A400M Tactical Display and an Atlantique 2.
- Warbirds & Icons: Legendary aircraft included the Yak 3, Douglas DC-3's, North American T28 and Beech Staggerwing
- Helicopters: Military displays featured the NH90 Caïman and the EC 665 Tigre from the ALAT (French Army) and also the historical legends: the Alouette II and Alouette III.
- Aerobatics & Specialized Acts: The show included the Groupe Patrouille Tranchant with their Fouga Magister, Max Holste & the Cri-Cri, and Danielle Wingwalker performing on a Boeing Stearman.
- The great finale: Patrouille Tranchant flying the Fouga Magister and Aéro-Club de France with Présidente Catherine Maunoury behind the stick in her Extra 300LP
The True Meaning of Meeting Aérien de Chartres
This airshow is defined by the visual dialogue between the medieval mastery of the Chartres Cathedral and modern aeronautical engineering. This creates a poetic "spirit of continuity," where the sky serves as a bridge between a UNESCO World Heritage past and a high-tech future. It is organised by passionate aviators, two time world aerobatic champion and Présedente de Aéro-Club de France, Catherine Maunoury and Airline and aerobatic pilot and Président de l’Aéro-Club Chartres-Métropole, Antoine Crochon. Their goal: "Sharing the dream of flight", Chartres Air Show sparks wonder in children and nostalgia in older generations.
