International Sanicole Airshow - 13-14 September 2025
45th edition of the International Sanicole Airshow: Phabuleous!
The International Sanicole Airshow 2025 held on September 13–14, 2025 at Sanicole Airfield in Hechtel-Eksel, Belgium, reaffirmed its status as a premier event on the European airshow calendar. Although we have not been in recent years, this edition served as a major highlight in our 2025 airshow season.
Sanicole airshow is led by Geoffrey Buekenberghs and is the only annual civilian airshow in Belgium. It has gained global prestige through the years. Despite its international scale, attracting over 45,000 visitors, the organization still relies heavily on a dedicated team of roughly 600 volunteers. And every year they have something special on the menu, this year was no exception!
Aerial Highlights
The lineup featured a masterclass in precision and historical power of military and civilian aircraft from across Europe and beyond. Despite some weather challenges on both days, the event showcased nearly 30 major aerial acts and a 7 hours flying display!
Military Display Teams
- Frecce Tricolori (Italy): The Italian maestros celebrated their 65th anniversary with their signature tricolor smoke and world-class choreography, though they performed a modified display due to low cloud cover on the sunset show.
- Red Arrows (UK): The Royal Air Force premier team returned for high-speed precision displays.
- Royal Jordanian Falcons (Jordan): A regular favorite known for their excellence and tight four-ship formation aerobatics in their amazing colours of their Extra 330LX aerobatic planes.
Military Solo Displays
- F-4E Phantom (Greece): An absolute highlight for enthusiasts, the Hellenic Air Force brought their legendary F-4 Phantom fighter in "Aegean Ghost" camouflage for both the Sunset and Sunday shows. Phabuleous!
- Daedalus Demo Team (Greece): Flown by the Hellenic Air Force, this team demonstrated the high-performance T-6A Texan II trainer.
- JAS-39 Gripen (Czech Republic): A powerful modern jet display showing the agility of the Swedish-built fighter.
- NH90 (Belgium): Representing the home nation with a tactical helicopter display and dynamic maneuvers.
Civilian & Hertitage Highlights
- B-17G "Sally B": The only airworthy Flying Fortress in Europe performed a moving tribute to WWII crews.
- Belgian Air Force Heritage Flight: A synchronized formation featuring the modern F-16AM and the historic Spitfire Mk.XVI.
- The Victors Formation Team (Belgium): A five-ship civilian team flying Piper aircraft, renowned for their smooth choreography.
- Phoenix Paramotor Display Team (Poland): A late addition that impressed with LED lights and pyrotechnics.
- AeroSuperBatics Wingwalkers (UK): Daring performers standing on the wings of vintage Boeing Stearman biplanes.
Atmosphere and Experience
The event was very well organised, featuring efficient parkings and a fast lane for pedestrians on the airfield for a smooth entry. While Sunday offered better visibility, the Saturday Sunset Airshow faced challenging conditions. Despite rain and gusty winds on the sunset airshow, the contrast of smoke against dark clouds created a unique, moody atmosphere. For photographers, Sanicole is renowned for being always difficult shooting against the sun due to its south-facing crowd line, but the backlit conditions often result in dramatic silhouettes.
The next edition of the International Sanicole Airshow is September 12-13, 2026
