Shuttleworth Summer Airshow United Kingdom - 26 July 2025

Summer at Old Warden's Shuttleworth Collection

The Shuttleworth Summer Airshow 2025, held on July 26, 2025 at Old Warden aerodrome is always one of our favourite places and highlights of our airshow season. Due to its unique historic ground and intimate atmosphere, a rare collection of exceptional planes and impeccable organisation, it is a relaxed airshow day unlike RIAT or Duxford.

In this relaxed atmosphere, families and enthusiasts could enjoy the vintage vehicle parades before the aerial action began. For those with a lens in hand, the venue is proven to be a photographers heaven: the curved display line and low-level routines allowed for lots of top-side passes by the planes, catching the light perfectly.

The Flying Program
The flying program was split into daytime and evening displays, featuring a mix of visiting warbirds and the legendary Shuttleworth Collection aircraft.

Daytime Highlights
Lots of vintage aircraft performed in the afternoon, many providing top-side passes:
  • Visiting Displays: Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) Lancaster, Hurricane, the "Jet Pitts" flown by Rich Goodwin and Canadair F-86 Sabre.
  • The Barnstormers: Including the Parnall Elf, de Havilland DH.60X Moth, Tiger Moth, and Miles Magister.
  • WWI Display: Sopwith Pup, Sopwith Triplane, Bristol M.1C, and Bristol F.2b Fighter.
  • Racing Heritage: de Havilland DH.88 Comet, Miles Hawk Speed Six, and Comper Swift.
  • Warbirds: Supermarine Spitfire, Hawker Hurricane, Gloster Gladiator, Lysander

As the wind dropped and the golden hour approached, the magic truly took over when the Edwardian aircraft flew in the evening. Seeing these delicate, pioneering machines silhouetted against a fading summer sky provided an unforgettable end to a perfect day at Old Warden.

Evening Flying: The "Edwardians"
The final "sunset" segment featured some of the world's oldest and rarest airworthy aircraft, which only fly when the wind is almost completely still.
  • The evening was opened by the RAF Typhoon (performed a special evening display)
  • Bristol Boxkite (1964 replica)
  • Avro Triplane IV (replica)
  • Blackburn Type D Monoplane (1912)
  • Blériot Type XI (1909 – world’s oldest flying aircraft)
  • English Electric Wren
  • Avro 504K
  • Avro Anson C.19

The spirit of Shuttleworth
Shuttleworth is home to the world’s oldest flying aircraft. Unlike static museums, this is a living collection where nearly everything - from 1909 Edwardian pioneers to WWII warbirds - is maintained in airworthy condition and regularly flown. This rare collection of aircraft you will not find anywhere else in the world. The relaxed atmosphere and easy access to the airfield makes it a fabulous day out for families and photographers. The airfield's curved flightline allows pilots to perform top-side passes that bring the aircraft very close to the crowd. For photographers, this provides angles and lighting conditions (especially during the "golden hour" evening shows) that are one of the best in Europe.

If you haven't attended one of these spectacular airshow events, make it a priority to visit. Shuttleworth Old Warden is a premier destination where time stands still, offering an unforgettable experience for aviation enthusiasts and families alike. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to witness stunning vintage aerial displays in a picturesque setting!

Till we meet again!
